Reclaiming Christ’s Kingdom in all Nations!

I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all
of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they
also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. I have
given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one. I
in them and you in me. May they be brought to complete unity to let the
world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.
Jesus Christ (John 17: 20-23)

Daniel Fast 2012: Day 21 (Last Day)

Dear Family In Christ,

Today is the last day of our Daniel Fast. Janet and I have so enjoyed the
benefits of this healthy diet along with a “fasted lifestyle” that we plan
to continue a modified Daniel Fast. We are sensing an increase of fiery zeal
for God, a deeper love for people, and more passion to advance Christ’s
kingdom in the nations. There is a renewed faith that God is revitalizing
and reforming His church, so the church can be an agent of transforming
cities, regions, and even nations. The most important beneficiaries of this
move of God’s Spirit will be children, the poor, and unreached people. To
God be the glory!

The two great themes of the Bible are covenant (relational unity through
God’s love) and kingdom_(the dominion of God’s rule on earth). Another way
to summarize the core values of God is relational love and
responsibility, or intimacy and impact, or being and doing. When we
live in covenantal relationships and accept responsibility to reclaim
Christ’s kingdom on earth, we are fulfilling the highest purpose in God’s
heart - bringing Him glory.

Becoming a disciple of Christ involves communing with and following Him, so
that we progressively become more like Him and do what He did. Of course,
this is a supernatural journey that requires three essentials: 1. The Word
of God, 2. The Spirit of God, 3. The Family of God. We encourage the forming
of small Missional Kingdom Families (5-15 people) which help each person
follow Christ and fulfill their callings. Within each Missional Kingdom
Family, we form gender specific groups of 2-5 people that are even more
intentional about Discipleship, Nurture, and Accountability. We call
these DNA Groups. The reason the DNA Groups are gender specific (men with
men, women with women) is to help foster deep, transparent, and honest
communication in every area of life. When these DNA Groups meet, two
questions are asked of each person. What are you hearing from God’s Word and
Spirit? How are you going to apply what you heard? The two questions are
asked around the two core values, relationships and responsibilities. So a
question might go something like this, “What is God saying to you about your
relationships (marriage, family, co-workers, neighbors, church family, etc)?
How are you going to obey God’s Word to you with these people?

How about getting into a DNA Group as a way of continuing the impact of this
year’s Daniel Fast? If you have any questions about DNA Groups or Missional
Kingdom Families, please don’t hesitate to send me an email.

Finally, our spiritual family places a high value on prayer. We would like
to continue serving you by lifting you up in prayer on a regular basis. To
get on our prayer list, just send us your prayer request, name, email
address, and phone number. You can send us the prayer request through the
U.S. Postal Service at the address below. Or, you can email the request to
timjohns@rocktribe.com .

We love and appreciate you all so very much. May 2012 be your best year ever
as you reclaim Christ’s kingdom.

With Father’s Affection,

I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore I have continued my
faithfulness to you. Jeremiah 31:3

Daniel Fast 2012: Day Nineteen

Dear Familia In Christ,

Here is what I do to love and obey Jesus more:
About the second or third day I was saved as I was sitting before the Lord.
I got a picture of me running towards Jesus. I was about three years old
and still wearing a diaper. As I ran closer to him the clearer I could see
him so eager to embrace me. When I got to him. He picked me up and just
held me. That day I learned that my father was eager to embrace me and was
even excited about it!
Having said that, this is what I do to love Jesus more. I run to him. I
get in his presence and just sit quietly and wait. Wait for what? To hear
the voice of my father. To hear his heart beat for me. So that my heart
can beat with the same rhythm his does. In his presence nothing else
matters. In the secret place it all makes sense. Jeremiah 29:11 For I know
the plans I have for you declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to
harm you plans to give you hope and a future. Everything (problems,
concerns, doubts and fears) become so small. I have a notebook with me and
I write down what my father speaks to me and about me. This is what I do
hear my father say to me every day. Jeremaih 31:3, “I have loved you with
an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.” So I just
trust him. It is comforting to know that I trust and obey the one who’s got
my best interest at heart. What else is there?

Here is what I do to help others love Jesus:
I pray for them. A lot of the time when I’m running errands. The Lord will
show me things about people so I walk up to them and ask them if I can pray
for them. One time I followed a lady around at Wal-Mart for about an hour.
When our shopping carts passed each other in the aisle I sensed great
sorrow. So I began to ask the Lord about her sorrow. Long story short, I
ended up approaching her and asked her if I could pray for her. When I
finished praying for her. She showed me a gun she had in her purse. Her
son had been killed just two weeks prior and it was going to be her first
Christmas without her son.

Yesterday I was coming out of another store and in the parking lot there was
a van with a young lady’s picture that has been missing for six years now.
I began to ask the Lord about that young lady. As I was getting in my
vehicle the owner of the van was getting in her car as well(it was the
gal’s aunt.) She stopped and looked at me. I knew the Lord wanted me to
pray for her. I asked if the young lady had been found, she said no. I
took her hands and asked her if she wanted a resolution? She said yes so I
prayed for resolution of the case. She had been mad at God and she
reconciled with the Lord.

We love you all,

Daniel Fast 2012: Day Seventeen

Dear Family of God,

What I do to get to know God better…

A couple years ago, I read the Bible thru in a year for the first time in my
life. I have been a believer for over 30 years and have never done this.
Since then I have done it again and finished end of 2011 and decided to do
it every year now. I have been completely amazed at the depth and scope of
supernatural understanding and the knowledge of God that has grown for me in
doing this…truly God gets to plant spiritual seed in our hearts that grows
as we present to Him the garden of our heart and allow Him free reign to
plant and tend it. I would encourage you, if you have not done this… to
make the commitment, and see how God returns to you in many ways that are
without end.

What I do to help others know God better…

It is easy in this life to allow ourselves to get squeezed into a moment or
segment of time when we may be experiencing difficulty. We are bombarded by
the preaching of the gospel of this world system 24 x 7… I try to remind
others (and myself) that we are living in eternity right now… that the
enemy of our souls is not going to run this place forever, that we are
strangers and aliens… sojourners in a foreign land that one day will be
run under the headship of our King. Eternal perspective eases the angst of
many things in this life… its also important to remember that our loving
Father uses suffering and difficulty to forge and shape Christ in us…

I hope this Daniel Fast finds you drawn deeper and deeper into Him…

I can do all things through him who strengthens me. Phil. 4:13

Daniel Fast 2012: Day Seventeen

Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift. 2 Corinthians 9:15

Dear Family of God,

There are several things that a person can do to help in knowing and
loving God. It could be different things for different people, but it all
must lead us to Him in harmony with His Word.
There are few things that speak to Jackie and me about God, His
magnificence, His magnitude and His love any more that nature itself. We
love to sit on our back porch, take a walk, take a bicycle ride or even
better, a motorcycle ride and take in the grandeur of God. Noticing
everything from the power of an ant to the power of a river and putting all
of that in the context of God’s Word creates worship in the soul.
There is one major enemy to doing this. TIME If we don’t “make time” it
won’t happen, or at least it won’t happen on a consistent enough
basis. “Make the time, and your love for God and your knowledge of Him will
increase
dramatically.

In helping others in this area of knowing and loving God better, “example”
is the best teacher. In pastoring a church, our people will not usually
exceed the passion of the pastor. Their love for their spouses will not
usually exceed the
love of the leaders. The flock’s zeal will not usually exceed the zeal of
the shepherd. More passion, love and zeal for God is caught rather than
taught. We must teach it, but if we are not exemplifying it, we are a
resounding gong
and clanging symbols. We are all examples whether we like it or not. We
might as well exert ourselves in the things of God and lead the way in
passion, love and zeal. Otherwise we risk being lukewarm examples. You can
do it. Together we can do it.

We can do all things through Christ who strengthens us!

Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day
and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then
you will be prosperous and successful. Joshua 1:8

Dear Family of God,

One of the practical things we do to know God more is having live worship
and prayer streaming into our home along with praying the Bible out loud.
Most of the music and prayers are scripture based, thus there is a constant
audible streaming of God’s word. This impacts us in a powerful way by
causing us to refocus our gaze throughout the day on Jesus. Our hearts
become more fascinated and our love deepens for Him. In the morning we come
before the Lord to adore Him in our prayer room, praying to Him with His
Word. As we drive the worship streams on our I phones through our stereos.
In our offices, it plays softly on our computers as we work. When we direct
the gaze of our heart and spirit toward Him as often as possible it helps us
to know Him better. Our hearts are moved by His glory, by His love, by His
personality as we spend our time worshiping and praying the words of the
Bible out loud. The Jews prayed the Word out loud back to God until the law
took root in their hearts._One could say that they used their mouths to
lasso their minds, to affect their spirits. _St Patrick, the famous
missionary to Ireland was said to recite at least 100 psalms a day out loud
to God. By looking at Him and gazing on Him often we encounter the reality
of His love and affections for us. We become more and more confident of His
love for us and this revelation transforms us into greater lovers of God and
of people. It causes us to change; becoming more like Him. Our lives
increasingly come into alignment with the Holy Spirit’s seed that was
deposited in us and stimulates growth emitting more and more of the aroma of
Christ to those with who we interact with. This correct alignment taught by
Jesus is critical to remember to prevent burnout and empty works of
ministry. How can we speak of love and of the One we know to others if we
don’t know Him ourselves and are in love with Him first? By seeking
God FIRST and loving Him with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength we
follow Jesus’ teaching of the way to live. From that focus then the “doing”
of loving others will be a natural/supernatural byproduct.

To engage in prayer is the most obvious and the most universal reflection
of man’s relationship with God. Prayer in its highest form and at its most
sincere levels is called a “service of the heart”, and constitutes one of
the many ways by which the love of God is expressed.” (Praying the Bible by
Wesley & Stacey Campbell, pg.29). Like Daniel (Daniel 12:8) we may not
understand everything we see and pray because the finite mind will never
completely understand the infinite. The entire Bible is God breathed, it is
the language of the Spirit; it is the language of prayer.

“This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but words
taught by the Spirit, expressing spiritual truths in spiritual words.” (1
Cor. 2:13)

All the believers were together and had everything in common. Selling their
possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need. Every day they
continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their
homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and
enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number
daily those who were being saved. Acts 2:44-47

Daniel Fast 2012: Day Thirteen

Dear Family of God,

Over the past 8 months, we have become more spiritual than ever in our lives
of 34 years. It’s overwhelming, really. And, why is this? For the first
time, it has been revealed to us what it truly means to be spiritual. God
lead us to a small spiritual family here in Laramie, WY. It is through this
family that we have learned what it means to connect with other believers.
We are from all different backgrounds, but have the commonality to: 1) love
God and give him glory, 2) love Jesus, and 3) be heaven bound. That is,
heaven on earth. That is what being spiritual means: living in heaven
right now on this earth! By doing this, Shane and I have literally
experienced God and have felt him change our lives personally, as parents,
in our friendships and have learned what it means to be children of God.

I think the thing I love most about our small spiritual family is that we
are all real. We are not afraid to admit when we have messed up. We all
struggle. We can share these things with each other because we want to
learn how to better serve the Lord. The only way to do that is by loving
Christ in each other. I am reminded by the verse from 1John 1: 5-7: “God
is light; in him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have
fellowship with him, yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the
truth. But if we walk in the light as he is in the light, we have
fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his son, purifies us
from all sin.” Our small spiritual family fellowships together so we can
learn how to be lights in Laramie.

Before we connected with this family, Shane and I were very dry in our lives
and kept saying to each other, “There has to be more to life than this.”
And there is. Now our cups runneth over.

To God be the glory!

Sing to the Lord a new song, for he has done marvelous things. Shout for joy
to the Lord, all the earth, burst into jubilant song with music; make music
to the Lord with the harp, with the harp and the sound of singing. Psalm
98:1, 4-5

Daniel Fast 2012: Day Twelve

Dear Family of God,

When Liz and I want to draw close to God we sing worship songs. Neither of
us is very musically inclined, but that is unimportant. Sometimes the
desire to worship in this way is weak, but once we start the Holy Spirit
rises up inside and enables us to worship wholeheartedly. The exact type of
worship music is also not important- anything from 400 year old hymns to a
song that is only months old- as long as it embodies truth about God and our
Lord Jesus.

As we deal with others, both believers and pre-believers, we have found that
a good way to point them toward God is to listen and pray. Listen carefully
to their story and by doing so become aware of where life is difficult or
scary for them right now. Then, pray for them right then and there asking
God to meet them where they are at. Few will refuse an offer of prayer even
if they don’t yet believe or are unsure of what they believe. Demonstrating
faith in this way helps ignite faith in others.

With love and fellowship,
